Salavat Yulaev (In Russian the ice hockey team is spelt Салават Юлаев) exists as a professional ice hockey team based in Ufa in the Republic of Bashkortostan within the Russian Federation. They are members of the Chernyshev Division of ice hockey of the Kontinental Hockey League (KHL).
Ufa is the capital city of The Republic of Bashkortostan. The area is approximately 1200km South-East of Moscow near the Ural mountains.
The team is named after an Ufa legend Salavat Yulaev, a national hero of Bashkortostan. Salavat Yulaev was a fighter and poet who lived from 1752 until 1800. He was a leader within the Peasant war of 1773-1775. His poet style took inspiration from the beauty of Baskiria in Ufa, the landscape, as well as the glory of fighting against tsarist.
